kind tutoring for the struggling learner
I am a licensed teacher (ELL, PreK-6) offering small group and private tutoring in reading, writing, and literacy skills at the elementary level. I am now enrolling sessions online.
I have more than 5 years of professional experience as a private tutor and teacher in public schools and in a one-to-one setting, plus 5 years in on-site testing of reading skills for a nationally-known educational research agency, as well as 6 years as founder and director of Green Branch, a social justice-oriented youth library and pop-up reading room in the Bay Area.
I am skilled at working with a diverse set of student needs, able to break down and clarify the curriculum to students with IEPs, learning differences, or who are learning English as a second (or third!) language. I use manipulative tools, multi-modal strategies, and accessible texts to help make learning meaningful, as well as research-based reading intervention curricula. I am also compassionate, patient, and resourceful, with the ability to connect with struggling learners.
